BUČOVICE

The Bučovice Chateau, built in the late 16th century for Jan Šembera of Boskovice, is one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Moravia. Designed by Pietro Gabri and influenced by Jacopo Strada, it reflects Italian palazzo in fortezza principles combined with local aristocratic traditions. Its richly decorated interiors, especially the Imperial Chamber, feature exceptional stucco and fresco programs with mythological and imperial themes. The artistic and technological quality of the stucco work suggests the involvement of Italian-trained craftsmen. Today, the chateau represents a unique testimony to the cultural and artistic ambitions of the Moravian Renaissance nobility.
