VAROTTO MAURO

MAURO Varotto (Padua, 1970) is Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Padua. Graduated in Arts in 1996 and PhD in "Man and Environment" in 2000 at the Department of Geography, University of Padua, where he carries out research since 2002.
He has taught at the Universities of Padua and Venice taking courses in Theory and Methods of Geography, Human Geography and Cultural Geography. He is currently Professor of Geography and Cultural Geography at the University of Padua and a member of the Teachers College of the Venetian School PhD in Historical, geographical and anthropological sciences.
He's author and/or editor of more than 60 publications (scientific articles, essays, volumes, contributions to national and international conferences) on topics related to the Alpine landscape and the relationship between man and environment in mountain areas, the dynamics of abandonment, the geography of terraced landscapes, the study of geographical meanings of dwelling and the transformations of contemporary settlements' phenomenologies, with particular reference to the Veneto region, the geo-historical evolution of cultural landscapes, and the critical relationships between society and the contemporary landscape.
In these areas of research collaborates with the Italian Alpine Club (as national coordinator of the Research Group "Terre Alte" of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Alpine Club), "Rete Montagna" - Alpine Network (as member of the Scientific Committee), the Veneto Region (as scientific coordinator of several research agreements), the "Rivista Geografica Italiana" (as scientific referee), and various research institutions and local museums. He was a promoter and scientific coordinator of the Protocol Agreement between the University of Padua and the Italian Alpine Club (2000) aimed to strengthen and coordinate the common research activities in mountain areas, the European project Interreg IIIB ALPTER "Terraced landscapes of the Alps (2005-2008), the Observatory on spontaneous citizen committees in Veneto (2007), and he is scientific advisor of the Protocol Agreement between the University of Padua and the Veneto Region for the Regional Landscape Observatory (2012).
