BONATO MARIO

Mario Bonato is a cognitive (neuro)psychologist, associate professor for the domain of Experimental Psychology (Univ. Padova). His research interests mainly focus on visuo-spatial attention, spatial cognition and spatial awareness, particularly in brain-damaged patients (e.g. hemispatial neglect following stroke). He has substantial (more than ten years) experience in the neuropsychological assessment of brain-damaged patients. His expertise also extends to the study of numerical cognition (first study ever on fraction processing in adults, number/time-space interactions). Among young researchers, dr Bonato is considered a leading expert in the assessment of hemispatial neglect. Recently, he devised a very sensitive computer-based dual-task method for the diagnosis of visuo-spatial disorders following unilateral brain damage. This approach mimics everyday demands and might become the gold standard for the diagnosis of hemispatial neglect in the chronic phase (Bonato, 2015).
He possesses a wide range of skills including experiment designing and programming, neuropsychological assessment, lesion mapping, statistical analyses of data, teaching, papers and projects writing and students tutoring. He has been positively qualified/accredited by academic commissions for the rank of associate professor in Italy (Experimental Psychology and Biopsychology) and in France (Neuroscience).
He has published mostly as leading author (first and corresponding), several (n>30) scientific articles, in the most widely read and better-ranked peer-reviewed international journals for neuropsychology (Neuropsychologia, Neuropsychology, Biological Psychology) cognitive neuroscience (J Cogn Neurosci, Neuroscience and Biobehavioural Reviews) and experimental psychology (J Exp Psychol). He attracted more than 400k € of research grants by successfully participating in competitive calls at national (Belgian and Italian) and European level. He obtained the prestigious Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (2015-2017); his CV and project were ranked in the best 1% of applicants by SH EU panel (score 98.7/100).
