PIROTTI FRANCESCO

Francesco Pirotti is currently associate professor at University of Padova, teaching and doing research on Geomatics (SSD - ICAR/06); topics of current interest include spatial observation data analysis, in particular surveying and remote sensing from close-range and satellite Earth observation, oriented towards environmental applications.

Author of 220+ articles, 125+ in indexed journals, he is responsible for carrying out editorial activities in several international scientific indexed journals. He is active in following national and international scientific societies: the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) currently as chair of ISPRS WGIII/8 “Remote Sensing for Agriculture and Natural Ecosystems”, the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL) as chair of the Agriculture SIG (special interest group) and the Italian Society of Photogrammetry and Surveying (SIFET) as Secretary to the Council.

He is currently director of the second level specialization Master “Geostatistics for Human, Animal and Environmental Health” coordinated jointly with the Medical School of the University of Padova. He is involved in several international and national projects as principal and co-investigator, with a total of >1M Euros of incoming personal funding (net) to the department in the past 10 years.

He held a TEDx talk in 2021 on his passion, the potential of remote sensing technologies for improving knowledge; title “Vedere l’Invisibile” (“Seeing the Invisible”).
