GOTTARDO FLAVIANA

Education: She obtained an MSc in Agricultural Sciences in 1992 and a PhD in Animal Science in 1996.
During her PhD studies, she spent a research and study period at the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Prof. Donald Broom. The focus of her research was the assessment of animal welfare in farm animals (dairy and beef cattle, pigs) and the evaluation of the quality of products of animal origin.
Academic career: She joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine as a researcher in the area of animal production (SSD AGR19) on 2 November 1999. She was appointed Associate Professor at the same Faculty on 1 March 2006. Since December 4, 2019 she holds the position of Full Professor of SSD AGR19 at the Department of Animal Medicine, Production and Health of the University of Padua (UNIPD).
Teaching activities: Since 2 November 1999, she has been continuously involved in teaching activities for the Master of Veterinary Science at UNIPD, with specialization in "animal welfare" in various academic curricula. Since 2021, she has been involved in UNIPD's Teaching Innovators Group (Change Agents).
As an expert in animal welfare, she provides training for veterinarians in specialization schools and university masters program, as well as outreach by teaching courses for livestock farmers and stakeholders of animal production sector.
Research activities: Her research record includes 113 SCOPUS-indexed publications, 2091 citations and H-index 28. She has acted as a co-ordinator of research units in several research projects, both at a national and international level. She is also Associate Editor for Animal Behaviour and Welfare for Frontiers in Veterinary Science and Section Editor for the Italian Journal of Animal Science.
She is a member of ASPA (Association for Animal Science and Production) and EAAP (European Federation for Animal Science). She is also Vice-President of EAAP's Animal Health and Welfare Commission.
