Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Filippo Ceccato, is a post-doc (Clinical Researcher) in Endocrinology at the Department of Medicine DIMED, University of Padova, and a consultant in Clinical Endocrinology at the Endocrine Unit (pituitary and adrenal division), University-Hospital of Padova.
His research activity is focused on the diagnosis of pituitary and adrenal neoplasm (especially Cushing’s syndrome, adrenal carcinoma, incidentaloma, acromegaly, adrenal insufficiency), on clinical application of mass spectrometry for cortisol-related diseases, on the management of disease-related complications and identification of genetic alterations in inherited diseases and endocrine tumors.
He is graduated in medicine (2009, title AIP mutations in patients with acromegaly) and he completed the residency in endocrinology and metabolism in 2015 (title: First line screening tests in patients with Cushing’s Syndrome). He completed his PhD in Endocrinology and Metabolism (project: Combination of medical treatment in patients with pituitary adenoma) at the University of Padova in 2018. Now he is Junior Assistant Professor - Postdoctoral Researcher in Endocrinology and Neurosciences at Endocrine Unit of Padova (Department of Medicine, DIMED and Department of Neurosciences, DNS).
He is sub-investigator in phase III/IV clinical trial for several treatment of pituitary adenoma (pasireotide, pegvisomant, metyrapone, osilodrostat), and he focus his attention to the evaluation of possible novel medical therapies (or combination of known drugs).
In 2018 he obtained the Italian National Scientific Habilitation as Associate Professor in Endocrinology (MED/13, 06/D2), in 2019 The Award for Best Researcher in Endocrinology under 35 for the Italian Society of Endocrinology)
He is Author of more than 80 papers in international refereed scientific journals, H-index 21, total citations 1200. He speaks at 10 national and international conferences

Research Network (2)

ERCUSYN - European Register on Cushing's Syndrome - n 2006, a number of leading European endocrinologists teamed together to apply to the European Union (EU) call under the Public Health Program and succeeded in getting funding for 3 years (2007-2010), to set up a European Registry on Cushing’s Syndrome (the acronym of which is ERCUSYN). More than a decade after its start, the project is active and has recruited information from over 1900 patients (August 2020). Among the aims of the registry are to increase the awareness among general practitioners or primary care physicians throughout Europe, to make an earlier diagnosis and hopefully improve the long term prognosis and “normalize” the increased morbidity and mortality associated with this syndrome if not treated correctly, prevent the impairment in Quality of Life, and set up European guidelines for diagnosis and therapeutic strategy, etc. From the beginning it was clear that this should be a European initiative, and the European Society of Endocrinology has been a partner from the start, supporting the project in many ways. The database has been sponsored by the EU, ESE, Novartis, Ipsen and HRA. Currently ERCUSYN involves more than 65 centres from over 25 countries. (01/01/2019 - )20190101
ENS@T - European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumours (ENS@T) Adrenal tumours are rare and therefore progress with regard to their diagnosis and treatment can only be achieved by combining the efforts of researchers and clinicians from several countries. To overcome these difficulties and to achieve significant progress benefiting the affected patients we have created a Network on Adrenal Tumours at a European-wide level. ENS@T aims to improve the understanding of the genetics, tumourigenesis and hypersecretion in patients with adrenal tumours and associated familial syndromes. It aims to improve the prediction of recurrence and the management of malignant adrenal tumours, which are particularly rare. The study of adrenal tumours is likely to reveal new molecular mechanisms of tumour growth and provide insight into the role of hormones as the cause of hypertension (high blood pressure).
