Understanding the potential occurrence of various types of landslides stands as a primary challenge in landslide forecasting. While field surveys represent a crucial method for achieving this objective, they often demand considerable time and resources. Dr. Ascanio Rosi, a researcher at the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua, is leading an initiative within the Excellence Project "Geosciences for Sustainable Development" to employ artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques in identifying different landslide types. The ultimate goal of this project, called "AI-driven solutions for automated landslide type classification: a supporting tool for national mass movements inventories", is to devise a streamlined model that will be made accessible to the broader scientific community.
