ALIMONTI ANDREA
Persona
conferito da Prostate Cancer Foundation - 2020 - Dr. de Bono and team are studying the biology of how ‘unfavorable’ gut microbes impact prostate cancer. The team is also developing a test to identify patients with unfavorable microbes in order to better understand how these microbes impact outcomes, and how these microbes can be reduced with novel interventions. If successful, this project will determine the biology by which unfavorable microbes contribute to prostate cancer, and identify possible therapeutic strategies for reversing their impact.
ALIMONTI ANDREA
Persona
conferito da Prostate Cancer Foundation - 2019 - Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are a class of immune cells which drive prostate cancer growth and represent promising therapeutic targets. Dr. Alimonti and team will determine the mechanisms by which MDSCs drive tumor growth and identify druggable targets. The team will initiate a proof-of-concept clinical trial to test an inhibitor of a major tumor-driving protein secreted by MDSCs, IL-23, which may lead to a new, life-prolonging treatment for patients. If successful, this project will lead to an effective new treatment for men with prostate cancer.
