Abstract:
The research goal is to study the quality of triadic interactions in families with preschooler children, considering the possible influence of two contextual factors: a) the quality of marital relationship and b) the father involvement in child care. 19 families belonging to a non-clinical population participated to the study and were recruited to child birth preparation courses. The research has a longitudinal design in 5 stages; at the 7th months of pregnancy the Dyadic Adjustment Scale was administered to both partners; at the 4th, 9th, 12th and 48th months of the child the Dyadic Adjustment Scale and the Questionnaire on father involvement were administered to mothers and fathers; at the 48th months of the child the Lausanne Trilogue Play was administered to the family. The results show that the quality of family triadic interactions at 4 years of children is significantly associated to paternal involvement assessed in the same phase. However, the quality of marital relationship does not seem a factor related to family interactive skills.
